Trump—like the GOP, with its millions of Bush-destroyed emails—has a much more torturous history with getting rid of pertinent communications, digital and otherwise, reports Newsweek's Kurt Eichenwald.

From his new exposé:

Over the course of decades, Donald Trump’s companies have systematically destroyed or hidden thousands of emails, digital records and paper documents demanded in official proceedings, often in defiance of court orders. These tactics—exposed by a Newsweek review of thousands of pages of court filings, judicial orders and affidavits from an array of court cases—have enraged judges, prosecutors, opposing lawyers and the many ordinary citizens entangled in litigation with Trump. In each instance, Trump and entities he controlled also erected numerous hurdles that made lawsuits drag on for years, forcing courtroom opponents to spend huge sums of money in legal fees as they struggled—sometimes in vain—to obtain records.

Will any of it matter? One can hope.

William Weld, who is on a team that is fighting against Hillary Clinton for the presidency, has come to her defense against FBI Director Comey, joining a legion of voices in decrying his electioneering:

They're totally off the reservation. Let's be honest—they're playing hit-and-run, right? ... There's no way for Mrs. Clinton to know what the evidentiary basis is on which they've made this update to their investigation, and they've said themselves they don't know it, so that just makes it all the more unreasonable to have waded into these waters in the first place.

Weld said Comey did the right thing in July, and the wrong thing in October.

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland) expressed respect for Comey, but said he believes Comey's actions were in response to intense pressure by Republicans.
