Thirty-four years ago today, November 25, “Do They Know It's Christmas?” was recorded. Though the song has some sketchy lyrics when heard today (thanking God for others' suffering, etc.), it's still a piercing call to action that kicked off real concern for world issues among famous folks who found themselves wildly rich and wildly paid attention to and were finally realizing there might be better uses for their newfound notoriety than partying.
