Comey: "The administration chose to defame me and the FBI...Those were lies. Plain and simple." (via @MSNBC) pic.twitter.com/2b4F9P9ETv
Fired FBI Director James Comey is going hard in his testimony to the Senate so far.
Snippet:
And although the law required no reason at all to fire an FBI director, the Administration then chose to defame me and, more importantly, the FBI by saying that the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the workforce had lost confidence in its leader. Those were lies, plain and simple.
Impeach Trump or the republic is a total failure.
UPDATE: Takeaway from today's proceedings is that the Republicans are trying hard to drag Hillary's emails back into the mix, and are focusing on how outrageous it is that Comey didn't tell Trump to his face that his urging of Comey to end the Russian investigation and to clear Flynn were inappropriate.
As far as Comey's own testimony, it's crystal-clear he thinks Trump is guilty of obstruction of justice, a point he underscored by stressing the fact that Trump at one point cleared the room of everyone — including A.G. Sessions — before making his unethical request.
Republicans will simply have to white-knuckle it through and pretend that obstruction of justice is not a big deal because it wasn't effective.

Trump told the Russians in that infamous, closed-door (except to Russian media!) meeting that James Comey was a “nut job,” and that firing him should ease the pressures he had been facing regarding the Russia-Trump probe.
That's a confession.
Meanwhile, Trump-until-I-die! loyalist Jeffrey Lord, who for some reason is given the time of day on CNN, defended everything Trump said to the Russians, including his accidental leaking of highly classified intel gained from Israel regarding ISIS, prompting Anderson Cooper to exclaim:
If he took a dump on his desk, you would defend it.
Lord laughed uproariously, as befitting a partisan, yes, nut job with no code of ethics.
Cooper later pointlessly apologized for his true observation.
