Jennifer Holliday jokes that “we're not doin' America right now” when it comes to not being political. It's kinda funny, but I still wish her decision not to sing for Trump were more organic ...

ABOVE: Some asshole at IHOP retweeted an anti-Hillary tweet from a non-American who hates the left as much as the right. The right loves it.
The @IHOP folks just took it down but the amazing thing is that it was up for a full 40 minutes.

Jennifer Holliday made a dumb decision, then a smart decision (full Q&A here!), then made her smartest decision yet — speaking with Joy Reid:

I was appalled, as were many of you, when gay icon and Broadway legend Jennifer Holliday was announced as one of the singers for a welcome party during Trump's inauguration, along with right-wing tools 3 Doors Down and Lee Greenwood, and conservaDem Toby Keith (who famously shamed the Dixie Chicks for speaking out against Bush).
Wig jokes and jabs about paying the rent commenced.
Then came word she had not officially accepted.
Relief!
Then came that infuriating series of quotes from Holliday, in which she framed her performance as “freedom of speech” and said she had “no dog in the race.”
More wig jokes, has-been comments, worse.
Now, Holliday has finally come around. She is not performing. And though I find her initial ignorance shocking and her initial pushback galling, I think her apologetic letter is humble and sincere — even if it's odd to me that it took her allegiance to all LGBTQ people and not her allegiance to all people of color and/or all women to make the difference; she made up her mind after reading a Daily Beast story on how heartbreaking her announced performance was for LGBTQ fans.
She ended her note with: “Thank you for communicating with me, I had no idea that I still meant so much to all of you. Thank you for your posted comments both the good supportive ones as well as the ugly hurtful ones.“
