Morris was a longtime Off-Broadway veteran before taking a call from his former student Michael Patrick King to audition for The Comeback (2005, 2014), his first Hollywood role.
Morris made several TV guest appearances, including on Arrested Development and Will & Grace, both in 2006, and had a recurring role on Running Wilde (2010-2011). His final TV role was on The Middle in 2016.
He was remembered fondly by co-star Lisa Kudrow on Twitter:
We lost Robert Michael Morris today. He left us with many wonderful gifts, most importantly, an example of what a truly good soul looks like.— Lisa Kudrow (@LisaKudrow) May 30, 2017
In 2015, he popped up in the parody PSA Sad Studs alongside a slew of comedy and YouTube stars protesting the fact that gay men are restricted from donating blood in the U.S.
