The Emmys Are The New Black: Full List Of Nominees Comments (0)

Oitnb-redMulgrew had better win—she gives one of the best performances I've ever seen on TV.

The Emmy nominations are in, and I'm happy Orange Is the New Black got so much love...including for trans woman Laverne Cox! We've come a long way since Milton Berle. (Though I'm sad the men were overlooked—they're fantastic in their supporting roles.)

The Normal Heart was also showered with attention.

Meanwhile, that Ellen Burstyn—a brilliant actress with many amazing performances behind her—could be nominated for her ridiculous performance in the ridiculous Flowers in the Attic should make everyone involved realize that the Emmys will starfuck any movie star any time they deign to appear on the small screen.

Full list of Emmy nominees after the jump, with my predictions in blue...

Sounding Groff: This Century's Gay Icon On Coming Out Comments (0)

Scene decrees that Jonathan Groff—living his life in Looking, dying an early death in The Normal Heart—is “this century's gay icon.”

Groff talks about his decision to come out publicly after his success on Broadway in Spring Awakening:

“I wasn’t denying it or anything, I knew I would talk about it someday, but I didn’t know how or why or when. But then I fell in love for the first time after the show, and I thought ‘Well, I’d rather be out and be in love with this person than try to hide it for any job I had when I came out,’ so I just said fuck it.

“Being in love was more powerful than any job I’d had before. That was the impetus.”

The Real Felix Comments (0)

JohnDuka79_pr0“John Duka” (1977) by Alan Kleinberg

The New York Times has run a compelling, tantalizingly short piece on its former style editor, John Duka, the man presumed to have been the inspiration for Larry Kramer's Felix from The Normal Heart. What an interesting, short life.

First Forever! Comments (0)

Normal-Heart

My pal Gordon gets credit for this idea. I think it hilariously skewers the “first!” meme, which has admittedly already veered into absurdist territory on its own.

Matt Bomer's Game-Changer Comments (0)

The-Normal-Heart-Mark-Ruffalo-Matt-Bomer

The Normal Heart's Matt Bomer gives a wide-ranging interview to HIVPlusMag, in which he speaks about meeting Larry Kramer and likens it to meeting a Beatle.

He also says his participation in the film changed his life:

“I don’t know how you could be a part of this movie and not be changed on some level, unless you’re just really a slab of concrete. It’s so rare that you get to portray a well-written character that’s fully developed and is also part of a story that you hope has some type of social significance, and also that changes you.”
