Pictures of Shane Tomlinson, one of 49 people who perished a year ago in the Pulse gay nightclub massacre, have allegedly been used in a romance scheme by an unidentified catfisher, one woman claims.

North Carolina Miss Lonelyhearts Ashley Pickenpack told WKMG that she realized the man she'd been talking with online — discussing marriage! — was using phony images when she saw Tomlinson's face in anniversary coverage of the Pulse shooting.

She said she knew the man by the name Thomas Gregory, and understood that he lived in England.

The FBI is reportedly investigating.

A year to the day after the Pulse gay nightclub massacre, in which 49 LGBTQ people were slain by Omar Mateen, a man pledging allegiance to ISIL, OutRight Action International is honoring the date and pledging to combat acts of “hate and violence against LGBTIQ persons and our fundamental dignity.”

I believe they have the right idea.

Via Crime Watch Daily: Juan Jose Cufino-Rodriguez was nearing the end of an extended trip to the U.S. — on which he'd met a new boyfriend — when he found himself in the path of Pulse gay nightclub shooter Omar Mateen on June 12, 2016.

The farewell party he was attending almost turned into his own funeral, as Mateen shot his hand nearly off in spite of Cufino-Rodriguez's pleas to stop, and in spite of his instinct to try to grab the gun away.

Instead, Mateen maintained his power over the weapon and shot both of Cufino-Rodriguez's legs.

I just fell to my knees. I thought he was going to shoot me in the head. But I lowered my head and he shot me in the spine and that's why I'm in this chair.

In a WKMG interview, Cufino-Rodriguez describes his plight:

Today, a year later, Juan only just departed the U.S. following his latest surgery. His short-term boyfriend is now his partner, and had been assisting him ever since the nightmare night.

His struggle is unimaginable, but his strength is an inspiration. If only he'd been able to get that gun — and how amazing that he had the strength to try.
