The 2000s-inspired music video for his single “Rush” is Beach Rats meets “I'm A Slave 4 U,” and we are — this should go without saying — here for it. Troye Sivan's single “Rush” — clearly a poppers reference — is out now, along with the announcement that an album called Something to Give Each Other (October 13).

Single and album art are are described by Sivan as:

This album is my something to give you - a kiss on a dancefloor, a date turned into a weekend, a crush, a winter, a summer. Party after party, after party after after party. Heartbreak, freedom. Community, sisterhood, friendship. All that. <3

To me, the whole project is explicitly 1970s gay hedonism, not after-parties and certainly not crushes. But sounds great either way, and the visuals are great. I especially like the choreography, which summons a back-room orgy in dance. (Girls being around feels like a cop-out if they were really going for Meatpacking District decadence.)

I'm reminded that when Steve Grand first debuted, he had that charming video in which he happens to share a beer with a (straight) crush who later rebuffs him. Mark S. King branded the newcomer's image as “predatory” and he was seriously upset about the consumption of alcohol. I wonder what he would think of this one? Or maybe Troye Sivan is too established and popular for him to slam.
