Awwww, Matthew, you made me get misty. I can't tell you what a staple Boy Culture - and you - have been of my daily internet existence, pretty much since the beginning. And what a hole this will leave in my ever-shrinking online life. Thank you for everything you've done, and I look forward to more from you via Substack, or wherever you might show up in the future.
Thank you for all the years of great writing and posts. I feel like we grew up together in nyc across the life of boy culture. . I look forward to your next era on substack. I ll be subscribing xx carmen
Oh Matthew, we've never met in person but I feel like I've known you my whole adult life. From my 20s having first editions of Encyclopedia M and BoyCulture (thanks for autographing them for me!) to my (gulp) 40s today - THANK YOU. You and Andy Towle were my online go-tos for "boy culture" and I'll miss the website. (Typepad did you dirty btw).
Thank you! I have so many names, like yours, I recognize from all the incarnations, too. Last-second update — AFTER Typepad was down and there was a message stating everything was flushed bye-bye, Typepad wrote me with a txt file of my site. So I seem to have all the text straight from Typepad. Plus I saved other stuff in layers. I can't easily reconstruct it (and that isn't my intention), but I do have most or all of it for posterity — just not in correct visual form.
I’m wondering if in retrospect your advice to anyone beginning a blog, you would recommend making a priority of privatlely backing up daily posts, which ultimately could be a lot of work, but worth it if something similar happens to Substack in 20 years?
It was already a part-time job, but backing up posts makes sense, at least posts you care about. It wouldn't have occurred to me to back up a daily list of links.

Thank you so much! I'll keep at it!

Carmen! So lovely to hear from you. I appreciate you so much.
So many memories! BoyCulture was such a gift; thank you for everything, Matthew. I'm so glad that you have this platform now for your writing.
Thanks, Joe. You're one of the OGs.
