KINO LORBER: Director Alexandre O. Philippe’s Kim Novak’s Vertigo is out October 13. It’s a doc with a difference:
“Kim Novak (Vertigo, Picnic, Bell Book and Candle) remains one of Hollywood’s most enduring enigmas – a luminous star who, at the peak of her fame, turned her back on the spotlight to embrace a life of solitude, self-expression, and authenticity. Once the top box office draw in the world, she defied the expectations of the studio system and the confines of celebrity, choosing individuality over image, and art over artifice. Kim Novak’s Vertigo is a lyrical and intimate portrait of a woman who refused to be remade by the industry that sought to define her. Blending rare archival footage with deeply personal reflections and vivid glimpses into her reclusive life along Oregon’s wild Rogue River, the film traces her extraordinary path — from mid-century icon to fiercely private artist.”
POLITICO: Insanely, they’re still having the Kennedy Center Honors.
JOYSTIQ: A new rival to Grindr is coming: Joystiq.
OUTNW: The new “Celebration” Issue of Out NW is out now! Laverne Cox, Cynthia Lee Fontaine and Murray Hill are among the celebrated subjects.
MAKING GAY HISTORY: A new musical called The Gorgeous Nothings is teaming up with Making Gay History for an eight-episode podcast called The Queens of Welfare Island. It’s about the forgotten LGBTQ+ people from the early part of the last century who were a part of the “Fag Ward,” a wing of the men’s penitentiary on what was then called Welfare Island (aka Roosevelt Island).
