DEADLINE: Odd Man In tells the story of Donald Webster Cory, whose book The Homosexual in America became a best seller in 1951, but who opted out of the gay-rights movement it helped inspire. Cory aka Edward Sagarin went on to argue no gay people were “well-adjusted,” and to theorize being gay was a “disturbance” caused by some childhood maladjustment. He urged gays to seek therapy … all the while sucking dick. After he was publicly outed as the author of the famous book in 1974 at a gay-rights convention, he receded from the movement entirely, dying in 1986.
