Boy Culture Links: Got My Liza Book: Minnelli Legit Savages Lady Gaga in It, Plus — Mark Wahlberg's Homophobic Past, Hilary Duff on 'So Gay' PSA & MORE
MARCH 10, 2026
NEW YORK TIMES: Liza Minnelli’s new memoir Kids, Wait Till You Hear This! gets a pan in The New York Times:
“It’s Liza with a zzz … Twelve years in the making but readable in an afternoon or two, Kids, Wait Till You Hear This! has been plucked, buffed and powder-puffed within an inch of its long life by the Great American Songbook champion Michael Feinstein and two veteran newspaper writers.”
Maybe helicopter mom Feinstein is a little too prominent?
Still, if you read the book — mine just arrived, “signed” — you will at least find that the recent juicy flap about Lady Gaga is much more pointedly a real complaint, not a compliment:
“My co-presenter — who the world knows as Lady Gaga — insisted she would not go on stage with me unless I was in a wheelchair. Then, incredibly, she asked if I wouldn't be better off going home. ‘Why?’ was my incredulous answer. At one point, she quizzed me, to see if my memory was intact. ‘What's the name of the film we're celebrating this year? And 'What's the name of the character you played in the film?' Like I was an idiot. We went back and forth, me getting angrier and more humiliated. I wondered if something else was going on. Was this just a ploy to get me off the stage so my co-presenter could have the spotlight all to myself?”
Perhaps tellingly, the next sentence is:
“Michael and Terrence were furious.”
Is this passage in the book Feinstein's revenge? Because aside from the above, the book goes OFF on Gaga, really letting her have it. Gaga will shed tears over this in a way Liza will not about a bad New York Times review.
JOE.MY.GOD.: The DNC is suing over Trump’s plans to use armed thugs at voting stations.
HOTSPOTS!: Las Culturistas podcast hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers announced a $10K donay to Equality Kansas over that state’s revocation of trans people’s driver’s licenses. Rogers, speaking at the 37th annual GLAAD Media Awards this weekend, said:
“We can’t accept this award without condemning the rampant, active transphobia from this administration and its supporters… they are fighting a losing battle.”
You can watch the guys make their remarks above.

ATTITUDE: Viewers are debating Mark Wahlberg’s homophobia anew because Ryan Murphy wrote a 1993 incident into Love Story where Wahlberg was alleged to have called one of Madonna’s entourage a faggot. This altercation was reported at the time it happened. Ironic, considering Wahlberg’s early career — Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch, his CK campaign — were gay-fueled.
I wrote alllll about the anti-gay incident in my book Encyclopedia Madonnica. According to information I had, the “entourage member” he insulted was Madonna’s straight manager Guy Oseary, who today is a huge force in entertainment:
I went to his Village book signing for the memoir he dedicated to his penis and it was largely gay men. I will say that while the rules were you could only get a signed book, I handed him several tear sheets (including of his bare ass from Smash Hits; teen mags were different then) and he signed them even though his bodyguards tried to stop it. But of course today he is a far-right Catholic who is embarrassed of the best thing he ever did — Boogie Nights — so all bets are off as to whether Wahlberg is homophobic and racist or just racist.

TWITTER: Speaking of hatemongers, JFC, that “undercover journalist” Nick Shirley, a darling of all the fascists (and who can’t speak for shit), looks rough:
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Mo’Nique is still bitching about an eight-year-old interview with Whoopi Goldberg — like an 8-year-old. Giving her an Oscar was such a low point. I remember being taken in by Precious, but I view that movie — not her The View clash with Whoopi — far differently today.
HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN: RuPaul and Lisa Kudrow are the special guests at this month’s L.A. Human Rights Campaign dinner.
Meanwhile, that org’s communications director Laurel Powell says of Trump’s SAVE Act:
“Donald Trump is flailing and has never been more out of touch with what the American public wants or needs. His anti-democratic bill threatens the right to vote for millions of people who have done nothing more controversial than changing their name. Now, as gas prices rise, job losses roll in, and he prosecutes an illegal war in the Middle East, Donald Trump is trying to tack on attacks on trans people in the mistaken belief that it will make the rest of it any less rotten. As voters proved in November, they are seeing through these anti-equality attacks that do nothing to lower prices, provide health care, or protect our families. It’s giving weak and desperate.”
PEOPLE: Hilary Duff is reflecting on her anti-“so gay” PSA:
“It was really impactful and I remember loads and loads and loads of kids coming up to me, just saying, ‘Thank you.’ I think they felt represented and stood up for and at that time, and in this time, it’s really important to feel safe and feel seen.”
INSTAGRAM: Monster Party, by Matt Dorado, is described as an immersive, queer surrealist play. Tickets are on sale today if you’re in L.A.
The pitch:
“Monster Party is an interactive play that puts guests in the center of a supernatural, sociopolitical melodrama. Set within the context of a bizarre, surreal cocktail party, the show sees attendees let loose inside the home of an enigmatic socialite known as The Baroness. Throughout the 2.5 hour experience, guests will have an opportunity to engage with a host of colorful characters, piecing together a lurid and gruesome narrative.
Interactivity, participation in party games, and, most importantly, gossip can all be utilized as storytelling mechanics; guests are encouraged to not only engage with the performers, but with each other to help piece the story together. While participation is encouraged, Monster Party is designed for newcomers and seasoned immersive theatre attendees alike, allowing everyone to engage with the narrative at their own pace. Guests can dive in and engage with the material directly, or simply enjoy a libation while watching a zany, absurdist narrative unfolds around them. Thematically, Monster Party is a fable about how the systems we exist in – Western Christianity, capitalism, patriarchy, warmongering, and various moral panics – turn us into monsters, terrorizing one another while those in power benefit.
The show is set in Washington D.C., against the backdrop of McCarthyism of the early 1950s – specifically the moral panic that would later be known as the ‘Lavender Scare,’ when queer government employees were outed and fired due to being perceived as ‘national security risks’ (read: due to institutional homophobia). The show is designed to both entertain and provoke, challenging audiences to confront their own monstrous tendencies.”
YAHOO!: Taylor Frankie Paul, the driver in the crash that left right-wing politico Madison Cawthorn paralyzed, is competing on The Bachelorette. Oddly, though one might imagine the two guys wouldn’t stay friends — and Cawthorn has sued him more than once — they’ve posed together post-accident:

Cawthorn is a former congressman, and is running again.

I went to that NYE party at the Tunnel in 1992. I vividly remember how excited all the gays were when Marky Mark appeared.
In my Tylenol PM-addled dreams tonight, I'm guessing Gaga will be wheeling Cawthorn around and helping him to read cue cards.
