LITTLE WHITE LIES: Marina Ashioti revisits the singular sensation Pink Narcissus, a film by the late James Bidgood that represents queer cinematic imagination, whimsy, rebellion and innovation at his finest. Though the film is technically turning 55, it took many years for him to complete it, meaning most of it was created in the ‘60s, and then creative control was wrenched from him and it was re-edited and dumped as a work attributed to “Anonymous.” It wasn’t until 1998 that he was publicly credited — and he still died broke 25 years later.

THE CONTENDING: A new cut of Gypsy 83 from director Todd Stephens restores his original vision for the film, about a gay Goth and his friends heading to a Night of 1,000 Stevies event. One thing that did not change — Stevie Nicks still would not allow the use of her music, even though the new owner of her catalogue and her music publisher were on board.
I have not seen the new cut, so will reserve judgment until I have.
