'Madonna: The Rise of the Material Girl'

Madonna: The Rise of the Material Girl (1980-1985) is a new exhibition that intends to document the years when Madonna became MADONNA, featuring the photography of Deborah Feingold, Gary Heery, Jack Lue, Marc Canter, Mark Weiss, Mick Rock and Richard Corman.
You will recognize Gary Heery as the genius who was called in to craft the future Queen of Pop’s first album after an initial shoot was deemed too disco. Feingold, in a short shoot, wound up creating images that have stood the test of time — and have adorned many magazine covers over the years.
Along with the others, Richard Corman shot Madonna before we’d ever heard her name, creating timeless, romantic and punky images in her apartment and on the roof of her building when she was just another LES Girl with a dream.
The exhibition is viewable Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., but you can also RSVP for an opening-night celebration here.
