You may have read my post about my dear friend Zafar Mawani and his husband Guillermo Hidalgo, who were abducted and murdered in Mexico this summer.
Now, I wanted to share an update from Zafar’s family. By posting it here, I’m hopeful it may be discovered by other friends and concerned citizens searching their names:
The case remains unsolved with big outstanding questions:
* A suspected perpetrator may remain at large
* We still don’t know how the offenders obtained private information about the couple to target them so effectively
* The media continues to report developments while authorities claim there are “no updates” and have withheld legally mandated case information.
If you are able to support, please:
1. Email the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office (template below): atencionciudadana@fgjcdmx.gob.mx
2. Email the US Embassy (template below): ACSMexicoCity@state.gov
3. Repost, Comment, and Like on all social media platforms
4. Consider helping with crisis expenses — any amount helps

Subject: URGENT - Justice for Zafar and Guillermo
Message: As a member of the international community, I am deeply concerned by the lack of transparency and resolution in the murder investigation for Zafar Padamsee Mawani and Guillermo Hidalgo Ortiz.
I urge you to rigorously advance the investigation and facilitate regular meaningful, transparent investigation updates to the family, including all arrests and hearings, consistent with both Mexican law and U.S. Embassy policy.
The world is watching.
Thank you so much for any emails you send. The foot-dragging and obfuscation in this case are appalling, and I know Zafar’s loved ones are beginning to wonder if they will ever have answers — and if things are being covered up to hide incompetence, to withhold justice from two left-leaning gay men of color or for some other nefarious reason.
